The Adventure Begins

Last Friday we left to visit Tulsa Oklahoma. We were pretty excited to go out and see the area and where we were going to begin our new lives. We were lucky enough to fly from St. George to Salt Lake and from Salt Lake to Tulsa. We learned that Delta is not a "Spencer Size" Plane, but it was SO nice not to have to drive to Las Vegas. Unfortunately our plane was delayed coming out of Salt Lake so we did not arrive till late Friday night. But there was still enough daylight to find Campus and drive around finding the Law School. As we drove around Tulsa to get familiar with the area we seemed to only find the bad parts of town. Then when we got back to the Hotel we decided to watch the local news. Right when we turned it on we learned there were four murders in the last week. From then on that became the running joke around town, watch out or you might just get shot. (We successfully were able to NOT get shot:).

Then next day we met up with a Law Student and His wife, he just finished his first year as a student. They were so great to help us out, they originally lived in Salt lake and graduated from the U. We went out to lunch and they gave us a tour around town and showed us were the good areas to live are. Which made us feel at east about moving to tulsa and hope for not getting shot. We then spent the rest of the day driving around looking for apartments. I was really no help to Spencer the entire time, I swear North was South and South was North. Which frustrated me to no end because normally I know what direction I'm going!

Sunday was our saving grace. We went to the ward we were pretty sure we were going to and they were WONDERFUL!! I have never felt so at home and welcomed and loved all at once. We knew if we made it through the move we would have such a great support system and a Home. We then went to see our top two contenders for apartments and relaxed as we toured the town. We drove to Downtown Tulsa and checked out the River. They had such a fun park there much like Downtown St. George with a water park but with a great view. They had a Bike trail that went up and down the entire river, with a Frisbee Golf Course. You could also rent bikes for free (if you brought them back) to ride up and down the river.

On Monday we went around and had a tour around campus. It is so beautiful to walk around and we enjoyed every moment of it. We also talked to the Financial aid ladies and talked to On-Campus housing. We then were so emotional spent we relaxed the rest of the day until it was time for dinner. We went out to Spencer's favorite place, a Japanese Steak house. Which happens to be right next to our new apartment, coincidence - I think not.

Tuesday we were not flying out until 5 so we decided to drive around the Apartment complex we were really considering. We snuck in the back and looked around and that is when I fell in love with Waterford. It is right on a main street and in the midst of construction (but all of Tulsa is under construction) but the back of the complex was SO peaceful and quite. We talked to the Office ladies and learned they were booked up for August but they had a first floor apartment right in the back next to a grass area with trees. It was PERFECT!!! So we have an apartment ready and waiting for us in July. Plus we get a discount for being a TU student.

It was a crazy but wonderful weekend and we are so ready, excited to go and begin this new phase in life.

Ah of course we had to visit the Giant Golden Ore Man and Spencer is sitting at the very base of it.
